FEBRUARY

Drawing Classes with Mark A. Henry

Weekly starting Thursday, Feb 2nd,  1 - 4 pm, $40 per class, Limited space available. Drop-ins welcome.

This class is open to all levels of skill. The teacher will address each artist's goals on a one-to-one basis. We will use charcoal as the first medium to draw a still life. During the first few classes, students will be exposed to value/light, line/edge, composition, and other components of basic drawing.  There will also be a discussion on materials, such as drawing supports (papers), charcoal types, erasers, etc. As artists gain basic drawing skills, they can move into color through pastels, and then other mediums can be discussed. The teacher will also be doing a demonstration to illustrate all the above.

Introduction to Cold Wax Medium with Denby Dale

Workshop meets for 3 hours on 2 consecutive Saturdays: February 18th & 25th, 1:30 - 4:30 pm

$145, all supplies and materials included

A hands on exploration of cold wax medium techniques and its numerous applications for your mark making tool box and art making practice.

This cold wax workshop is for both those who are new to cold wax, as well as those who want to further explore the versatility of this popular medium. Cold wax may be used as a stand-alone medium in collage or mixed media,  but is most frequently mixed with oil paints & other pigmented media. Incorporating cold wax medium into oil paint is also a great way to enhance your understanding of color theory, pigment and the lightfast (opacity & transparency) qualities of paint.

We will also discuss traditional and non-traditional tools for application, substrates and surfaces, studio safety and drying agents. Come see how to make this medium work for you in your own art practice, or just to try something new!

Email hello@denbydaleart.com for more extensive details and registration. All attendees will receive a printed summary of the class - including materials/techniques/topics covered.

Held on the 4th Friday of the month, starting on Friday February 24th,  1:30 - 4:30 pm; drop ins welcome.

$40 per session, various supplies provided; please also bring any mark making media/substrates you enjoy working with.

Expand your artistic vocabulary by discovering what abstraction means for you and your art practice in this semi-guided, open studio style session workshop. This informal workshop is appropriate for creatives of any level and is a great opportunity to experiment and engage with other artists and makers.

In this workshop, we’ll use prompts to explore mark making (dry and wet media) for experimentation & generating starting points, while re-engaging with design principles and elements. From realism-based abstraction to exploring the non-objective, there is great value in shaking up the conversations we have with our work. Discover new approaches to how you source, make, experience and share your work. Participants may work in any type of 2D media. Limited drawing and water-based painting media will be available - please also bring your own.
